President Buhari Confers With INEC Chairman at Aso Rock Ahead of Upcoming Election

President Muhammadu Buhari met with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday morning. The President said the unscheduled meeting was part of the efforts to ensure the upcoming Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections would be successful.

Buhari had explained his few minutes’ lateness to the commissioning and handover of security equipment valued at over N12 billion to the military and Nigeria Police Force, citing he had been grounded by the electoral body. He reminded all that everything needed to be done for a successful election to be achieved.

The President also held a meeting of the National Security Council at the State House, Abuja later that day. This council comprised the Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police, and some Ministers, among others and advised the President on public security issues.

Before the start of the meeting, the President launched security equipment donated by CACOVID at the Council Chambers. This initiative was aimed at boosting the security of the country ahead of the upcoming election.

The Electoral Commission’s meeting with the President emphasized the importance of the upcoming election and the need to ensure that it is conducted fairly and without any irregularities.

The President’s focus on security indicated the government’s commitment to providing a safe environment for voters to exercise their democratic rights.

The National Security Council’s meeting was an important step in ensuring the successful conduct of the elections. The council discussed strategies for providing adequate security for the conduct of the election and for the security of the citizens in general.

The President’s attention to detail and dedication to ensuring the election is a success shows his commitment to democratic values and his respect for the rule of law.

INEC has urged all eligible voters to come out and exercise their right to vote, assuring that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe process.

The government has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the Nigerian people are able to cast their votes in a secure and peaceful manner.
