Six opposition political parties in Cross River have dissolved their structures to support the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Sandy Onor. The coalition of opposition political parties (COPPs) announced their decision in a statement released Friday after a Calabar meeting.

The decision was taken after carefully assessing all the candidates with a focus on competence, capacity, and character. COPPs Chairman, Mr Ntami Esege, stated that Sen. Onor's antecedents have placed him above every other candidate for leading the state for the next four years.

The political parties that agreed to collaborate with the PDP governorship candidate include the ADC, ZLP, AA, APGA, ADP, and Accord. The decision to support Onor ensured that the state was taken to an enviable height. According to Esege, the state has gone through a lot in the last eight years, and there is a need to support a man with the proper credentials to lead the state.

The endorsement of notable religious and socio-political groups has been secured by the PDP governorship candidate, including the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and a Catholic Church group.

Sen. Onor's endorsement by these groups and the coalition of opposition political parties (COPPs) signals a growing momentum in his campaign as the November 2023 elections draw closer.

Cross River is a state in the southern region of Nigeria with over 4 million people. It is known for its tourism and agricultural potential, and the upcoming gubernatorial elections have generated much interest in the state. The support of these opposition parties and notable groups is expected to give the PDP governorship candidate an edge over his rivals in the state's top job.
