Abia guber: Thugs intimidating voters in Osisioma Ngwa - LP Otti
The Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party in Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has raised concerns about the alleged voter intimidation by state-sponsored thugs during the ongoing elections. Otti, who cast his vote at Umuru hall in Isialangwa South Local Government, called on security agencies to put an end to the reported incidents.

While noting that the voting process was seamless at his polling unit, he expressed dismay at reports of intimidation in places like Umuoba, Osisioma, and Maryland secondary school Umuahia. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the process is free, fair, and devoid of any form of intimidation.

Speaking further, Otti stated that the use of state-sponsored thugs to intimidate voters is undemocratic and a violation of citizens' rights to exercise their franchise. He called on the security agencies to be proactive in preventing any further acts of violence during the election. Otti also urged the Abia State Government to ensure that the process is peaceful and devoid of any form of electoral malpractice.

The Labour Party candidate noted that the voter turnout has been impressive so far, adding that it is an indication of the people's determination to choose their leaders. He, however, urged the electorate to be vigilant and report any acts of violence or irregularities to the appropriate authorities. He also commended INEC officials for their prompt arrival and urged them to ensure the process is transparent and credible.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Government has assured the people of the state of their safety during the elections. In a statement by the Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, the government noted that it has taken measures to ensure the security of lives and property. Kalu called on the people of the state to come out and exercise their franchise peacefully, urging them to avoid any form of violence or thuggery.
