Amotekun busts motorcycle theft syndicate in 4 states
The Ondo State chapter of the Amotekun security outfit has apprehended the leader of a motorcycle snatching syndicate, Wasiu Olamide, who had been operating in major towns within the state and other states in the South West region.

According to Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun in Ondo, Mr Wasiu was apprehended in Akure after a series of complaints by victims of his criminal activities and intelligence gathered by the security outfit.

He added that the suspect, who is the ringleader of the syndicate, usually robs his victims at gunpoint and sells the stolen motorbikes to a buyer who disassembles and harvests all the motorcycles before carting them away.

Mr Adeleye further disclosed that the suspect, who is from Osun State, confessed to stealing over 100 motorcycles in the past three months within Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun states. The Amotekun boss said that the synergy between security agents in the state has contributed significantly to the reduction in the crime rate in the state.

He also revealed that the outfit had arrested seven other suspects who were involved in the illegal possession of weapons and firearms, kidnapping, impersonation, and other crimes.

Meanwhile, the police in Ondo State have arrested a group of five robbers who specialise in using a sledgehammer to break down the wall of buildings and invade houses. The suspects, who were arrested in the Isikan area of Akure, were identified as Bolaji Olarewaju, Kayode Olarewaju, Bukola Adeyemi, Saheed Abiodun, and Oladimeji Taiwo.

The police said that the suspects have been terrorising residents of the area for some time and had also stolen a large number of household items.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bolaji Salami, who confirmed the arrest, said that the police acted on a tip-off from members of the public and immediately dispatched a team of operatives to the scene. He commended the residents of the area for their vigilance and urged them to continue to support the police in their efforts to combat crime in the state.

He also assured the people of the state that the police would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of lives and property.
