In the collation of results from the 34 local government areas of the state, Radda won in 33, leaving his major opponent, Senator Yakubu Lado of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with only one. Lado won in his local government of Kankara with 27,984 votes to beat his opponent Radda who polled 21,652. Prime 9ja Online reports that the Saturday 18 elections were generally peaceful except for some issues of violence and overvoting here and there causing the cancellation of results.
Dr Dikko Umar Radda is a native of Radda town in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and has a doctorate in Business Administration from Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas. Radda has held various positions in government and the private sector, including serving as the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
The Katsina governorship election result was different from the February 25 presidential election where the ruling APC was defeated by the opposition PDP. The PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had polled 1,429,894 votes in Katsina State, while President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC got 1,232,133 votes. The APC had also lost the 2019 governorship election in the state to the PDP candidate, Aminu Bello Masari.
