The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Isang Akpaumontia, paraded the suspects and the recovered items before newsmen at the Ikeja Cantonment on Wednesday.
He stated that three individuals were arrested in the apartment, and the prime suspect was on the run. In addition to the PVCs, ballot papers, cutlasses, and Indian hemp were found in the apartment.
Akpaumontia disclosed that the Brigade received early information about the suspects and was able to arrest them with the support of the Department of State Services.
The prime suspect, however, escaped and is currently at large. He added that the owner of the apartment, who is believed to be the prime suspect, was traced to a hotel but absconded.
The recovered PVCs and suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for necessary action. Akpaumontia stressed that the Army will ensure that the law is strictly enforced, and anyone found culpable will be made to face the total weight of the law.
He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
The recovery of the PVCs has raised concerns about the credibility of the upcoming general elections in Nigeria, which are scheduled to take place in 2023.
There have been reports of voter suppression, violence, and other forms of electoral malpractice in previous elections in the country.
The government and electoral authorities have been urged to take urgent steps to ensure the elections are free, fair, and credible.
