Buhari urges Nigerians abroad to support Tinubu
President Buhari has called on Nigerians in Diaspora to support the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, as he prepares to take over the reins of government on May 29. The President made this call during a Town Hall meeting in Doha, as part of his visit to the State of Qatar, on March 8.

In a statement by the President's media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari stated that his administration set forward credible, transparent, and fair elections which will conclude on March 11, with the Governorship and State Assembly elections. He urged Nigerians to support Tinubu to ensure that Nigeria continues to be the beacon of hope and prosperity in the continent and an example for other African countries to emulate.

The President acknowledged the noble roles that Nigerians in Diaspora all over the world have been playing in the development of Nigeria, adding that his administration had approved a National Diaspora Policy, and supported the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to develop programmes for their engagement.

Buhari also noted that his administration had worked tirelessly to improve the country's electoral process, culminating in the success of the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023.

The Nigerian Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Yakubu Ahmed, congratulated President Buhari on the successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections. Ahmed added that the process has proven that Nigeria's democracy is indeed strong while praying for an equally successful Governorship and State Assembly elections.

Buhari's call for support for Tinubu comes amidst reports of political tension in the country following the Presidential elections. Some opposition parties have called for a cancellation of the Presidential election, citing irregularities and widespread voter suppression.

Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged as the Presidential candidate of the party after a closely contested primary election.

His emergence as the party's Presidential candidate has been greeted with mixed reactions, with some sections of the country expressing concerns over his suitability for the role.

Despite the concerns, Tinubu has promised to build a better Nigeria, focusing on job creation, infrastructural development, and improved security.
