Enugu: 10 feared dead as trailer, bus collide A fatal accident on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway claims 10 lives as a bus collides with an incoming trailer carrying cement. The incident occurred around 8:45 am at CBN Bus-stop, and eyewitnesses blamed the crash on the poor state of the road, which forced many motorists to ply one way.

Prime 9ja Online correspondent, who visited the scene, reported that dead bodies were littered on the road while passers-by made frantic efforts to take the slow survivors to a nearby hospital.

The bus, with Enugu registration number, XL884 ENU, was conveying passengers from Abakpa in Enugu East Local Government Area to New Market when the crash occurred.

According to an eyewitness, the driver, Simeon, attempted to overtake another vehicle in his front, emitting too much carbon monoxide. In the process, the trailer was very close, and the bus collided with it, leading to a loud sound, and the bus was completely damaged. While some survivors were rescued, at least ten people were confirmed dead.

Many residents have attributed the avoidable crash to the poor state of the road, which has been a long-standing issue, leading to accidents on the expressway.

The police, army, and Road Safety personnel have arrived at the scene to control traffic and avoid any breakdown of law and order. They also took charge of the situation and moved the dead bodies and survivors to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident has brought to the fore the need for urgent measures to address the poor state of the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, which has become a death trap for commuters. The Enugu State government and relevant authorities must take decisive actions to address the situation and prevent further loss of lives on the road.
