FG takes over Yobe cargo airport
The Federal Government has taken over the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Damaturu, according to Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe. Speaking at a book launch, he said the takeover followed a formal request by the state government and noted that the airport would boost socio-economic activities in the state.

Yobe’s Commissioner for Transportation and Energy had previously stated that the state spent over N18 billion on the airport project initiated in 2017.

The 134-page book titled “Gov. Buni’s 1,500 projects”, authored by Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, details the various projects executed by Buni’s administration and their locations across the state.

Buni expressed his pleasure at the federal government’s decision to take over the airport, which he said was executed in line with the required standard. He added that his administration would remain focused on formulating and executing people-oriented projects for the benefit of the common man.

The Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport is expected to facilitate economic activities in Yobe and its neighbouring states. The airport will also serve as a gateway for agricultural and mineral resources from the North-East region to the international market.

The airport is equipped with modern facilities, including a 3.6-kilometre runway, a terminal building, a control tower, and a cargo terminal. The terminal building has an arrival and departure hall, a VIP lounge, and several offices for airport agencies.

The airport is expected to improve the ease of doing business in the state, as investors will have access to a modern airport that will enable them to move goods and services in and out of the state with ease. The airport is also expected to create job opportunities for the people of Yobe and the Northeast region.

The takeover of the airport by the Federal Government is a testament to the quality of work done by Buni’s administration. The airport is one of the many projects executed by the administration, which includes road construction, rehabilitation of schools and hospitals, and water supply projects across the state.

The book authored by Mohammed showcases the various projects executed by the administration, and it is a testament to the transparency and accountability of the government. The book will serve as a guide for future administrations in the state, as well as researchers and scholars interested in the development of Yobe state.
