Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has described his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as "the last kick of a dead horse." Fayose believes that the Senator Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee of the party is only entertaining themselves with the purported suspension as their latest comedy skit. He stated that the “inglorious tenure” of Ayu as national chairman of the PDP would soon become history and the party would enjoy a new lease of life. The former governor also revealed that he and other loyal party members would rescue it and restore it in due course.
The PDP suspended Fayose and four other chieftains, including Prof. Dennis Ityavyar from Benue State and Dr. Aslam Aliyu from Zamfara State, following a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Thursday. The party also referred the Governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, to the National Disciplinary Committee for his involvement in anti-party activities during the last election.
Fayose called the purported suspension baseless and unfounded, stating that it had no leg to stand on. He had earlier criticized Ayu's leadership and his cohorts for abandoning the party and leaving it to die. Fayose and other loyal members stayed with the party through the thick and thin, hoping to revive it.
However, Fayose's spokesman, Lere Olayinka, claimed that Ayu and his cohorts were only entertaining themselves with the purported suspension as their latest comedy skit. Olayinka also stated that in a matter of days, the “inglorious tenure” of Ayu as national chairman of PDP would become history, and the party would enjoy a new lease of life.
