Gov. Okowa endorses PDP's Delta guber candidate
Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has pledged his continued support for Sheriff Oborevwori, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Okowa made this statement in Asaba on Monday, noting that his decision was based on the fact that Oborevwori was democratically elected at the party's primary election.

Recalling that Oborevwori emerged victorious at the primary election held on May 25, 2022, with 597 votes, while his closest rival, David Edevbie, polled 113 votes, Okowa affirmed that he would continue to support the candidate as he was the people's choice.

"We are in a democracy where people make choices. Oborevwori was chosen by the people, so I will continue to support him," he said.

The governor described himself as a product of democratic processes, noting that in 2015, he went through a democratic process to emerge as PDP's candidate. He promised to ensure free and fair elections in the state and push democratic processes forward.

Commenting on the mass defection of PDP members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Okowa said that everyone had the right to defect, pointing out that some members of the APC in the state were also defecting to the PDP.

Addressing the "Obidient Movement," the governor clarified that the membership was not limited to the Labour Party, citing various factors such as religion, the argument that the Igbo must produce the next president, and the need for the presidency to shift to the South as reasons for the movement's emergence.

Regarding his administration's stewardship, Okowa highlighted the construction of over 1,000 kilometres of storm drainage and more than 2,000 roads, bridges, and schools. He also noted the state's efforts to improve healthcare services, education, and agricultural development, among others.

Okowa stressed the importance of cooperation between the state government and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable development in Delta, adding that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare and well-being of Deltans.
