Hazzan expressed his concern while speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote at polling unit six, ward 14 in the Omu area of Odogbolu Local Government. He said that it was unacceptable that INEC had not updated its records to reflect the deaths of registered voters.
According to Hazzan, "It is very disappointing to see that the voter registration lists used by INEC are full of dead people. This means that the names of deceased registered voters have not been deleted from the register, which is unacceptable. INEC should have updated its records and ensured that only living and eligible voters were allowed to vote in this election."
Hazzan also raised concerns about the state's voter turnout level, noting that it needed to be higher than expected. He attributed the low turnout to a lack of voter education and apathy among the electorate.
He said, "The low turnout is a concern, and it is something that we need to address going forward. We need to do more to educate voters on the importance of participating in the electoral process, and we need to create an environment that encourages voter participation."
Hazzan urged INEC to address the issues with the voter registration lists and ensure that only eligible voters could vote. He also called on the electoral body to work with relevant agencies to increase voter education and mobilisation.
