Abdu criticised INEC for not providing an explanation for the failure of the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the previous elections. He urged INEC to design a strategic plan for when something goes wrong and conduct a self-audit of the presidential election to identify what went wrong. Sani also expressed concern over INEC’s handling of the BVAS system, stating that a backup should be in place in case of failure.
Sani compared INEC to the Titanic, stating that the electoral body made many promises but crashed on its first voyage. He criticized INEC for not being transparent about what went wrong during the presidential and National Assembly elections and called on the electoral body to come clean and admit if their system was hacked.
Sani called on INEC to redeem its image in the upcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections, emphasizing the importance of democracy and ensuring the process is completed. He stated that Nigeria is a great country when it comes to the issue of democracy and that it is important to ensure the process continues to a logical conclusion.
Both IPAC and Yiaga Africa believe that INEC must take action to restore public trust in the electoral process and that the upcoming elections are an opportunity for INEC to prove itself. They emphasized that democracy is at stake and that it is crucial for the electoral process to be transparent and credible.
The gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on March 18th, and all eyes will be on INEC to see if they can redeem their image and deliver credible and transparent elections. The success of these elections will have a significant impact on the country's democracy and its standing in the international community.
