Kano guber: Thugs disrupt voting, destroy ballot boxes

Unidentified thugs have disrupted voting in the Rimin Gado local government area of Kano state, destroying at least 10 ballot boxes across several polling units. The incident occurred while voting was progressing peacefully, leading to suspending the election process in the affected areas.

According to Prime 9ja Online, security agencies with the NSCDC narrowly escaped the attack and have since arrived at the INEC office in Rimin Gado with some ballot boxes. Eyewitnesses reported that the thugs arrived at the polling units and began to destroy the ballot boxes, causing chaos and panic among voters.

The disrupted voting process has caused concerns among political stakeholders and residents of the area, who have called on the security agencies to restore peace and ensure the safety of voters.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kano State, Professor Riskuwa Shehu, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the commission was working with security agencies to address the situation. He also urged voters to remain calm and patient while the security agencies work to restore peace and order to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident and assured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process. The command also called on anyone with information about the incident to come forward and provide the necessary details that could help apprehend the perpetrators of the act.

Political stakeholders have also condemned the attack on the electoral process, with some describing it as an attempt to subvert the people's will. They called on the security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure voters' safety and prevent such incidents' recurrence.

The disrupted voting process has further highlighted concerns about the country's security of the electoral process. In recent years, there have been reports of violence, vote buying, and ballot box snatching during elections in different parts of the country. These incidents have raised questions about the effectiveness of security agencies in ensuring the safety of voters and protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
