In what could be described as a disturbing incident, some thugs reportedly disrupted the electoral process in a polling unit at Olamaboro Local Government in Kogi state. The incident resulted in the scattering of ballot papers and caused panic among voters.

According to eyewitnesses, the thugs stormed the polling unit, shooting sporadically in the air and creating chaos. They reportedly snatched the ballot box and scattered the ballot papers, leaving voters and electoral officials scampering for safety.

It was further gathered that the thugs had been hired by political actors to disrupt the electoral process in the area. Some voters who spoke to journalists expressed disappointment over the incident, stating that they had come out early to exercise their civic responsibility only to be met with violence and intimidation.

Reacting to the incident, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) condemned the disruption of the electoral process and vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The Commission called on security agencies to step up their efforts in ensuring the safety of voters and electoral officials.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of voters and the credibility of the electoral process in Nigeria. It is hoped that the relevant authorities will take necessary measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur in future elections.
