The Labour Party candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, has won the state governorship election, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The returning officer for the state, Professor Nnenna Oti, announced Otti's victory on Wednesday afternoon. With 175,467 votes, Otti beat his closest rival, Okey Ahiwe of PDP, who received 88,529 votes.

The announcement was delayed due to alleged attempts by the PDP to inflate votes from Obingwa local government, the home local government of the incumbent governor.

The election results have been widely welcomed, with supporters of Otti celebrating across the state. The governor-elect has promised to work hard to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
