Labour Party urges Enugu voters to back guber candidate
The Labour Party in Enugu State has called on voters to support its governorship candidate in the upcoming March 11 election. In a statement, party spokesman Dr Mcginger Ibeneme urged the electorate to "vote massively" for Dr Chijioke Edeoga. Ibeneme was speaking after a high-level meeting of party officials and youths from the Oji River Local Government Area.

The meeting praised the working relationship between the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and all of the LP candidates in Enugu State, and congratulated Nigerians for voting for LP in the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. Ibeneme also assured voters of adequate security at the upcoming polls, saying plans had been worked out by security agencies.

The meeting condemned acts of violence in the state, including the murder of LP senatorial candidate Oyibo Chukwu on February 22. However, the party welcomed the appointment of the deceased's brother, Chief Kelvin Chukwu, as a replacement candidate for the senatorial seat.

The LP called on voters in Enugu East senatorial district to avenge the murder with their votes on March 11. It also urged all party faithful, supporters, and Nigerians, in general, to remain peaceful and resolute as Obi seeks to reclaim his mandate in court.

The Labour Party is hoping to win the governorship race in Enugu State, which has been dominated by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for many years. Edeoga will face tough competition from the PDP's Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is seeking re-election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) is also fielding a candidate in the race.

Enugu State is known for its peaceful elections, and authorities have promised to ensure a level playing field for all candidates. However, there have been concerns about the possibility of violence in some areas, particularly in the wake of Chukwu's murder. The LP's call for peaceful and prayerful campaigning will be welcomed by many, as voters prepare to make their voices heard at the polls.
