LP's Kelvin Chukwu defeats Chimaroke Nnamani in Enugu East
Sir Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party has defeated former Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, in the Enugu East Senatorial district election. Chukwu won with 69,136 votes, while Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 48,701 votes. Chukwu replaced his brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was murdered a few days before the Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections. The election was conducted on Saturday, and the result was announced on Sunday.

In his acceptance speech, Sir Kelvin Chukwu thanked the people of Enugu East for their support and promised to work for the betterment of the district. He also extended his condolences to the family of his late brother, Oyibo Chukwu, and thanked his supporters for their commitment to the campaign.

Meanwhile, the defeated former governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, has accepted the outcome of the election and congratulated Sir Kelvin Chukwu on his victory. Nnamani expressed his gratitude to the people of Enugu East for the opportunity to serve them and wished the new senator well in his tenure.

The Enugu East Senatorial district has been a stronghold of the PDP, with Nnamani winning the seat in the 2015 and 2019 elections. However, the victory of Sir Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party in the district shows a shift in political dynamics.

The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has also congratulated Sir Kelvin Chukwu on his victory, describing it as a testament to the credibility and acceptance of the Labour Party in the state. Ugwuanyi urged Chukwu to represent the district diligently and work towards the development of the area.
