The accident involved a Lagos State Government staff bus and an NRC train. According to Okhiria, the bus driver continued to move despite other cars stopping at the level crossing, leading to the train crushing the bus.
He appealed to motorists to always consider the level crossing and obey the stop points.
The accident has resulted in three confirmed deaths, with several others injured. The director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed that the staff bus was fully loaded with government staff heading to the office in the morning.
LASTMA officers were the first emergency responders on the scene, and other responders were called in to aid with the rescue.
Okhiria expressed concern for the lives of the Lagos State staff and urged motorists to always exercise caution and abide by traffic regulations, particularly at level crossings.
