The training in Abuja aimed at exposing the marshals to ensuring safety during emergencies and evacuating people to designated muster points. Speaking at the training, Emmanuel Okpale, the Acting Assistant Director of Safety Control at NUPRC, stressed the need for more safety consciousness due to global happenings and insecurity.
Okpale said the in-house training was aimed at ensuring safety in the buildings and workplaces and the safety of the entire staff. He urged companies and organisations to imbibe awareness and preparedness on emergency response and adopt NUPRC’s method to save lives.
The training also featured FCT Fire Marshals, who exposed the personnel to accurate-term emergency situations, fire-fighting drills, and practical emergency response.
Ibrahim Muhammad, Superintendent of Fire and Public Relations Officer, FCT Fire Service, spoke on “Behaviour Best Safety Culture and Combustion,” and dwelt on improving people’s safety consciousness.
He advised other organisations and agencies that would like to indulge in similar training not to limit their staff to only activity but to organise and put a safety week annually for training in their calendars.
Muhammad added that the oil and gas sector needs to extend their training to other aspects because of the oil and gas fire. In addition, he said organisations should observe and put safety first to avoid causing injury to others.
He also urged everyone to change their present attitude to be more security conscious and ensure they know security. Muhammad advised using Personal Protection Equipment, including helmets, safety boots and gloves, to protect against hazards.
The NUPRC training was described as a global best practice. Okpale emphasised the need for those saddled with the responsibility to know what to do during emergencies, especially with the growing insecurity worldwide. He urged companies and organisations to adopt NUPRC’s method to save lives.
Okpale also explained that essential equipment that can be used for responding to emergencies, necessary equipment and an Automated External Defibrillator, which can be deployed in offices in case of emergency situations.
