Obi endorses Edeoga as Enugu candidate
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has affirmed that Chijioke Edeoga is his choice and the party’s governorship candidate for Enugu State. Obi made this declaration during a breakfast show on a national television station in Enugu, in response to confusion over the LP’s governorship candidate.

The statement followed Aisha Yesufu’s endorsement of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for governorship in the state. Obi clarified that not all members of the OBIdient movement, including Yesufu, are members of the Labour Party.

He emphasised that non-partisan supporters who worked towards his candidacy in the past came together under the OBIdient and the Big Tent platforms, but LP members would support their party’s candidates. He added that while Yesufu and others have the freedom to support any governorship candidate of their choice, LP members would endorse Edeoga as their candidate.

Obi expressed his confidence in Edeoga's leadership and qualifications, stating that he deserved all the support from LP members. He urged the people of Enugu State to vote for Edeoga and the Labour Party, as he believes the party has the best interest of the people at heart.

Edeoga, a former commissioner for environment and mineral resources in Enugu State, emerged as the LP governorship candidate for the state in the 2023 elections. He has promised to promote transparency and accountability, create job opportunities for youths, and improve the quality of education and healthcare in the state if elected.

The LP candidate has also pledged to tackle the security challenges in Enugu State by working closely with security agencies and investing in security infrastructure. He noted that security is a prerequisite for economic development and that his administration would prioritise the safety and security of the people.

LP has been making efforts to increase its relevance in Nigerian politics and gain support from voters. The party is fielding candidates in various states, including Enugu, and is seeking to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, has been an influential figure in Nigerian politics and a vocal advocate for good governance and accountability. He has been actively involved in supporting various candidates and parties in elections across the country, and his endorsement carries weight among voters.
