Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has charged candidates of the party running for House of Assembly seats in Anambra State to brace up for victory in the upcoming elections. Obi held a closed-door meeting with the house of assembly candidates in Awka, where he urged them to work hard and ensure they secure victory in their respective constituencies.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Obi expressed his confidence in the party's candidates and encouraged them to work with the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, after their victory. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the party's candidates and the governor in order to deliver quality representation and development to the people of Anambra State.
Obi's statement was in response to a recent video where Governor Soludo had stated that he would not work with members of other political parties who emerge in the House of Assembly. Obi clarified that the party was not calling for the impeachment of any other political party's candidate, but was rather focused on securing victory for their own candidates.
"We are not urging anyone to impeach any other person. We held a meeting with our assembly members, and we are calling on Nigerians to vote for the Labour Party. We are not asking anyone to impeach anyone. People should not be afraid of impeachment. We only seek to get things right in Nigeria," he said.
Obi's call to the Labour Party candidates to work with Governor Soludo after their victory is seen as a strategic move aimed at fostering cooperation and unity between the party and the state government. It is hoped that such cooperation will lead to better governance and development in Anambra State. The state is set to hold its House of Assembly elections on November 6, 2021.
