Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday, Asogwa attributed his confidence to the tested pedigree of the party's candidate, Dr Peter Mbah. He noted that Mbah's people-oriented manifesto and the party's intensive campaign across the state had endeared him to the electorate.
According to Asogwa, Mbah is the most competent candidate in the race and has demonstrated his willingness to transform all sectors of the state. Asogwa stated that PDP's victory in the election is not a matter of party anymore, but about the competence and pedigree of the candidates.
"Mbah is the best candidate of all the candidates in the election because of his private sector background. He knows how to do the job perfectly and has demonstrated his zeal and willingness to move Enugu State forward," Asogwa said.
He added that the PDP had conducted a well-structured and focused campaign that has reached every nook and cranny of the state. Asogwa noted that the party's campaign was aimed at sensitizing the electorate about Mbah's manifesto, which is centred on improving the living standards of the people.
Asogwa urged the people of Enugu State to come out en masse on election day and vote for PDP. He expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious and urged other candidates to accept the outcome of the election.
"Mbah has a blueprint to transform Enugu State, and he will hit the ground running immediately he is declared winner of the election. I call on other candidates to accept the outcome of the election and join hands with Mbah to move the state forward," Asogwa said.
He further stated that the PDP-led government in the state had recorded significant achievements in the last eight years and had set the pace for development in the Southeast region. Asogwa said that Mbah would build on the successes of the present administration and take the state to greater heights.
"Mbah will consolidate on the achievements of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and take the state to the next level of development. He will ensure that every sector of the state's economy is positively impacted," Asogwa said.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the level of preparedness displayed ahead of the election. Asogwa called on INEC to ensure a free, fair, and credible process that would reflect the will of the people.
Asogwa also applauded the security agencies for their commitment to ensuring a peaceful election. He urged them to remain impartial and professional in the discharge of their duties.
The Enugu State governorship election is expected to be keenly contested by candidates from various political parties. However, Asogwa is confident that the PDP would emerge victorious, considering the track record of the party and its candidate.
