PDP, Labour Party in tight race in Enugu gubernatorial election

The PDP and Labour Party both win 4 LGAs each in Enugu State elections. PDP secured victory in Aninri, Udi, Ezeagu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs, while the Labour Party won Oji-River, Igboeze North, Igbo Etiti, and Isi-uzo. 

In Aninri, PDP won with 6520 votes, while Labour scored 3431 votes. 

In Udi, PDP polled 13,633 against Labour’s 10,109. Labour scored over 12,518 to clear Isi-uzo while PDP polled 6,381 votes. 

Labour also won in Igbo Etiti with 11,941 votes while PDP trailed with 8959 votes. In total, Labour is slightly leading with 66,907 against PDP’s 66,471. 

The announcement of results at the Enugu INEC office has been suspended until 3:00 pm with nine LGAs to go. The elections have been largely peaceful, and residents of Enugu are hopeful that the exercise will be concluded peacefully. 

The state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has commended INEC and security agencies for ensuring that the elections were conducted without any major incidents. 

The governor expressed hope that the results of the remaining LGAs will reflect the wishes of the people of the state.
