Police arrest man for defiling 10-yr-old in Abuja
The police in Abuja have arrested a 48-year-old man, Adekola Adeshina, for allegedly defiling his neighbour's 10-year-old daughter. The arrest was made following a complaint by Rose Solomon, who lives behind Prince & Princess Estate in Abuja. The FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar, revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime after interrogation.

The CP condemned the act, stating that sexual violence against children was a heinous crime that should not be taken lightly. He advised parents and guardians to be vigilant and pay close attention to the behavioural patterns of their children to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The 10-year-old victim has been taken for medical examination, and the police have urged parents and guardians to take steps to protect their children from sexual abuse. The Commissioner of Police assured the public that the command would continue to be vigilant and respond promptly to complaints about sexual violence.

Sexual violence against children is a serious problem in Nigeria, and many cases go unreported. The police have urged parents to speak out and report any incidents of sexual abuse. The government has also taken steps to address the issue, with the enactment of the Child Rights Act and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act.

Despite these efforts, sexual violence against children continues to be a major concern in Nigeria. Experts have called for increased awareness campaigns, education and training of parents, caregivers, and law enforcement officials, as well as stricter enforcement of existing laws to curb the problem.

In recent years, there have been calls for stiffer penalties for perpetrators of sexual violence against children. The Nigerian Senate has passed the Sexual Harassment Bill, which seeks to provide stiffer penalties for sexual offences, including rape and sexual harassment. The bill is currently awaiting presidential assent.

The arrest of Adekola Adeshina is a reminder of the need for continued efforts to protect children from sexual violence. The police have urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or incidents of sexual abuse. Parents and guardians are also advised to take steps to educate their children on the dangers of sexual abuse and how to protect themselves.
