Rev Peace-Udochukwu described the result of the presidential election as a coup against Nigerians and called for the immediate resignation and prosecution of the chairman of INEC and all those involved in the criminal conduct of the election. He added that Yakubu colluded with the ruling party, APC, to subvert the will of Nigerians, judging by the condemnations that trailed the election from the international community.
“We also make bold to say that what INEC and APC did by the singular act is tantamount to a coup against the Nigerian people,” he said.
Rev Peace-Udochukwu further appealed to Labour Party members across the country to come out in their numbers and vote for their party candidates, assuring them that their stolen mandate would be recovered in court. Labour Party FCT Chairman, Peter Chukwuemeka, described the presidential election as a rape of democracy and added that Nigerians won’t be tired of fighting for a new Nigeria.
The call for Yakubu's resignation came on the heels of several irregularities that characterised the presidential election. These irregularities, according to POMAG, have brought disrepute to INEC, hence the need for the chairman to resign. POMAG stated that Yakubu's resignation would restore the dignity of the electoral body.
The group also accused INEC of colluding with APC to subvert the will of the people, saying that the international community had condemned the election. POMAG called for the prosecution of those involved in the criminal conduct of the election.
The governorship and Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled to hold in a few days, and POMAG has urged Nigerians to come out and vote for their preferred candidates. The group has assured Nigerians that their stolen mandate would be recovered in court.
