The caution was given by the PDP state Publicity Secretary, Mr Andeta’rang Irammae, during a press briefing in Jalingo on Tuesday. Irammae advised the APC to focus on issue-based campaigns and shun the use of violent tactics to gain power.
The APC had earlier accused the PDP of planning to rig the elections, a claim that was refuted by Irammae. He stated that the PDP had been ruling the state since 1999 and had earned the confidence of the people.
He also accused the APC of attacking the PDP candidate for the Donga state constituency, retired Capt. Douglas Yahaya, during his campaign in Bibinu. The PDP has reported the incident to the appropriate authorities.
Irammae expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections. He pointed out that the party had already produced two senators and three House of Representatives members in the state during the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He urged the APC to adopt decent ways of politicking and allow a free and fair electoral process.
The PDP in Taraba has promised to prioritize the needs of the people and work towards the development of the state. The party’s governorship candidate, Sen. Darius Ishaku, has promised to focus on areas such as education, health, agriculture and infrastructure development. Ishaku has also promised to ensure that the state’s civil servants receive their salaries promptly and that the welfare of retirees is taken care of.
The APC, on its part, has promised to focus on security, agriculture, healthcare and education. The party’s governorship candidate, Sani Danladi, has pledged to ensure that the state’s security architecture is strengthened to prevent attacks by criminals. Danladi has also promised to revitalize the state’s agriculture sector, improve healthcare delivery and provide quality education for the state’s youths.
Both parties have been engaging in rigorous campaigns ahead of the March 18 elections. The PDP has been holding rallies and door-to-door campaigns to woo voters, while the APC has been organizing town hall meetings and rallies.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the people of Taraba of a free and fair electoral process and has promised to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the elections are conducted without any hitches.
As the people of Taraba prepare to go to the polls on Saturday, all eyes will be on the INEC to ensure that the electoral process is transparent and credible. The PDP and the APC will also be looking to see who emerges victorious in the governorship and state assembly elections.
Whatever the outcome, it is hoped that the will of the people will prevail and that the state will witness a smooth transition of power.
