Bonaventure Kosisochukwu, a 19-year-old tricycle rider from Bayelsa State, Nigeria, is in need of financial assistance to undergo a major surgery to fix his left leg, which was broken in an accident. The accident occurred in June 2022, along Ayama-Yenagoa Road in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, while he was trying to dodge a reckless motorcyclist.
Kosisochukwu, who is the breadwinner of his family comprising his father, mother, and younger siblings, has already spent his entire savings and borrowed to get his fractured joint fixed, but the medical experts have told him that he needs to undergo a major surgery to get the broken bone fixed.
According to Kosisochukwu, the estimation for the bone surgery is between N3.5 and N5 million, which he cannot afford, therefore he is pleading with good-spirited Nigerians and organizations to assist him.
Kosisochukwu, who resides in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has been out of work for months and has exhausted all his savings. He said he took up commercial tricycle riding to cater for himself and his family until the unfortunate incident happened.
Narrating his ordeal to Daily Trust Saturday in Yenagoa, Kosisochukwu said his tricycle was folded with him inside when he rammed into a stationary vehicle. He immediately became unconscious, and people around thought he had died. When they discovered he was still alive, they rendered help. His left leg was dislocated, and bone broken according to the medical reports.
Since then, Kosisochukwu has been to several hospitals as well as native bone setters but to no avail. He said he believes in God at the moment because even money to eat is a problem, not to talk of the huge amount the hospital is demanding for surgery.
Kosisochukwu was told that the bone inside the joint is broken. After he went for X-ray and took the result to the hospital, the doctor said the X-ray was not clear, and they needed to do an MRI. From the MRI result, he was told that there was a crack at the cog that holds the hips, so surgery is needed to put another cork so that they can fix the leg.
Kosisochukwu said he is left with nothing, but he prays that God will touch people to help him so that he can return to his business and help his family. He humbly solicits public-spirited Nigerians to assist him, as he took to commercial tricycle riding to fend for himself and his family and to avoid indulging in anti-social vices.
Kosisochukwu's situation highlights the need for individuals and organizations to come to the aid of those in need. The road to recovery is a long and difficult one, but with the help of kind-hearted Nigerians, Kosisochukwu can get back on his feet and continue to provide for his family.
