Zamfara guber: Police arrest 40 suspects for vandalism
Police in Zamfara state have arrested 40 suspects for alleged vandalism and theft after the release of governorship election results on Tuesday. The Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, SP Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Friday. According to Shehu, the suspects took advantage of the announcement of the election results to violently attack the homes and offices of APC leaders and government facilities.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kolo Yusuf, led joint police and other security agencies to bring the situation under control, resulting in the arrest of 26 suspects. Area Commanders and DPOs also embarked on similar exercises in their respective areas of duty to avert escalation.

As the ongoing investigation by the police detectives continues, another 14 suspects have been arrested and looted and vandalized properties have been recovered. The police are on the trail of other hoodlums who participated in the mayhem.

The police have reassured the public of diligent investigation with a view to arresting fleeing suspects and their collaborators for prosecution, as well as the recovery of the looted properties.

Speaking on the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kolo Yusuf, reiterated the command's commitment to ensuring that law and order are maintained in the state. He urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

The arrests have been welcomed by residents of Zamfara state who have expressed concern about the spate of violent attacks in the state. Many have called on the police to intensify their efforts to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.

The arrests are also expected to send a strong message to other individuals who may be planning to engage in similar activities in the state. The police have assured the public of their readiness to protect lives and property in the state.

The governor of Zamfara state, Bello Matawalle, has commended the police for their efforts in bringing the situation under control. He has called on the people of the state to cooperate with the police and other security agencies to maintain peace and order in the state.
