APC Kogi Governorship Aspirant promises security, job creation
Dr Sanusi Ohiare, the APC Governorship Aspirant in Kogi, has promised the electorate of adequate security, gender inclusion, quality health delivery, education and regular power supply if elected. Ohiare made the promise at the Kogi Governorship Media Parley with members of the state council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday in Lokoja. The former Executive Director of Rural Electrification Agency added that security and job creation through the revitalisation of the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company would be at the forefront of his administration if elected as governor in November.

Ohiare said that the issue of security would be taken seriously, following the footsteps of Gov. Yayaha Bello, who had laid a solid template for tackling security challenges in the last seven years. He disclosed that job creation would be given serious attention as those weaned from the world of crimes would need to be engaged in profitable ventures.

Ohiare promised social intervention loans and welfare packages for students to boost education and reduce the number of out-of-school children in the state. He further promised the highest budgetary allocation to education, with a concentration on Science, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). To this end, the revitalisation of Ajaokuta Steel would be addressed holistically, especially when all the hurdles impeding its revitalisation had been cleared by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He added that serious attention would be given to the steel company, considering the enormous economic potential and the number of jobs it would provide. Ohiare called on delegates to the April 14 APC primaries to increase the tempo of their work for the party more than ever before. “As leaders, we must work harder than before to bring the youths, who are aggrieved from the last election, on board in the new arrangements. I am that person with the requisite experience to represent the youths’ interest, and you will not be disappointed,” he said.

Ohiare promised an effective quality health delivery system, health insurance scheme, and the establishment of social welfare for the aged, indigents, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs). He promised to give priority attention to the welfare of disabled persons, which, he said, would be incorporated into the administration’s policy and programmes.

He said that the party would embark on a massive gender inclusion program to ensure that women were given more opportunities to participate in governance. He said that women had been marginalised for too long, and it was time to correct the anomaly. Ohiare promised to ensure that women occupied more political offices in the state.

He said that his administration would ensure a regular power supply, as he understood that the absence of it had affected economic growth in the state. He said that the administration would work hard to provide power to businesses and industries in the state to enable them to thrive. Ohiare said that the administration would give attention to agriculture to provide food security for the people.

He assured the people that his administration would be transparent and accountable to the people. He said that the people would be carried along in the scheme of things, adding that there would be no discrimination in the distribution of resources. He said that his administration would promote unity and peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in the state.

Ohiare called on the people to support his candidature, assuring them that he would not betray their trust. He said that he had the requisite experience and exposure to lead the state to greater heights. Ohiare promised to build on the foundation laid by Gov. Yahaya Bello and make the state a better place for all.
