According to the command's public relation officer, Olasunkanmi Ayeni, the tracking unit of the command acted on information to trace the suspect to Oke-Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara, where he was arrested on March 24. Ajibola was alleged to have impersonated a soldier to defraud one Abdullahi Saheed of N700,000 and Ropo Gabriel of N96,000. He promised to help them get admission into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
The suspect also allegedly deceived Prophet Samuel Olugbemiga to convert his Toyota Picnic car for commercial transportation on the pretext of assisting him to drive it. After getting possession of the car, Ajibola later absconded with it. The NSCDC official stated that the suspect would soon be arraigned in court after the command concluded its investigation. The NSCDC had warned Nigerians to beware of fraudsters who often use fake identities to dupe unsuspecting citizens.
The spokesperson for the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, had earlier urged Nigerians to be wary of fraudulent activities during the pandemic. He noted that fraudsters had devised new methods to defraud Nigerians, including impersonating government officials or representatives of international organizations. He advised Nigerians to verify the identity of individuals before transacting any business with them and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
