A widow, Mrs Grace Akintola, explained how she and others were invited to the crusade by someone in their area. She alleged that the pastor put on a priest's regalia and made several promises, including buying a fully-furnished house for one of them. Akintola stated that the pastor sold a bottle of water mixed with perfume for N4,800 and promised attendees money, the kind of money politicians could not give.
Another victim, a University of Ibadan student, explained that the pastor ordered them to fast for three days and collected their phones to allow them to focus on prayers. However, he later absconded with their belongings, claiming he was going to eat at the University of Ibadan.
The pastor has now declared wanted, and posters bearing his name and pictures have been circulated within the area to track him down. The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation had commenced, with updates to be provided.
In recent times, cases of fraud have increased, especially by individuals parading themselves as men of God. It is important to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with religious figures and organizations, especially when making monetary or valuable donations.
