Speaking at a mass to mark his 63rd birthday anniversary, Mr Kalu emphasised that he would be at the forefront of driving true reconciliation between Nigerians, the Church, and the government.
He stressed that the incoming administration needs to drive peace and reconciliation urgently in the country, noting that there was so much hatred among Nigerians.
Mr Kalu, who is seeking to become the President of the 10th Senate, supported the same-faith presidential ticket fielded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election, arguing in favour of its political expediency.
However, he acknowledged that there was growing resentment among the Nigerian Christian community towards the APC-led government since the party fielded a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket which clinched the election.
The APC chieftain noted that the government must partner fully with the Church to further drive good governance in the country, adding that he would use his contacts as a recognised global businessman to support the incoming government.
He also urged politicians to continue to work for the unity of the country, warning that Nigeria should not be like Sudan.
“I am going full out to reconcile the church and the government, and this is major, the government can not do it alone, the Church needs the government and the government needs the Church,” said Mr Kalu. “So it is a partnership that can work and work very well, so I am going to be in front, driving it to make sure there is a true reconciliation between Nigerians, the church and the government.”
In his speech, Mr Kalu stressed the importance of tackling the challenges in the economy as soon as possible, noting that no election is perfect and there is a need for reconciliation of faith and people. He called on his fellow politicians to work for the unity of the country, stating that the government and the Church must work together to drive good governance in the country.
“There is so much hatred in the land everywhere you go amongst Nigerians,” said Mr Kalu. “People should continue to make peace, let Nigeria not be like Sudan.”
