Mr Sam Ekpe, a veteran journalist and public affairs analyst, has congratulated Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on his emergence as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. Ekpe praised Iwuanyanwu for accepting the role at 80 years old and commended his past efforts in promoting Ndigbo activities in Nigeria, including Iwuanyanwu Nationale in sports, Oriental Airlines in aviation, and Champion newspapers in the media industry. He called on those opposing Iwuanyanwu's leadership to support him during this period of reflection on Nigeria's political future.
Ekpe, who worked as an editor in the defunct Daily Star newspaper in Enugu and as a special assistant in the presidency in the Second Republic, believes that Iwuanyanwu's leadership will be crucial in advancing the interests of Ndigbo in the country. He also noted that Iwuanyanwu's experience and leadership qualities would enable him to navigate the challenges faced by the socio-cultural organization.
The veteran journalist urged those who have opposed Iwuanyanwu's emergence as the president-general to join hands with him and support his leadership. He said, "It is time to sheathe their swords and support this big iroko tree, a frontrunner in the progress and development of Ndigbo, to preside over the affairs of the socio-cultural organization at this period of deep reflections on the political future of Nigeria."
Iwuanyanwu's emergence as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide was greeted with mixed reactions, with some expressing concern about his age and ability to lead the organization effectively. However, Ekpe believes that Iwuanyanwu's experience and contributions to the development of Ndigbo would make him an effective leader.
Ekpe added, "Chief Iwuanyanwu is a nationalist, an advocate of equity and fairness, and an apostle of one Nigeria. He has always been in the forefront of the fight for a better Nigeria, a more equitable Nigeria, and a more just Nigeria. He has always stood on the side of the people and has never been found wanting in his service to the people."
