Former Ebonyi Senator Anyim Ude Dies at 82
Senator Anyim Ude, who previously represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District, has passed away at the age of 82. The sad news was announced in a statement signed by Mr Nnanna Ude, the eldest son of the deceased, on Thursday in Abakaliki. According to the statement, the elder statesman peacefully departed from this world on May 15, just two weeks before his 82nd birthday.

The statement expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the life of Senator Anyim Ude and requested prayers for the repose of his soul. It read, "Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced by the family as we seek your prayers for the repose of his soul to eternal life in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Senator Anyim Ude served as the elected representative for Ebonyi South Senatorial District in 2007, during which he initiated numerous developmental projects for the benefit of the region. Born on June 1, 1941, in Akaeze, in the present-day Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi, he had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Public Service spanning 42 years.

Prior to his tenure in the Senate, Senator Anyim Ude excelled in various roles within the public service, particularly in the field of media. The statement highlighted his accomplishments, stating, "He was a veteran journalist, broadcaster, and administrator with vast experience in public service, especially in media matters." He began his career as a clerk in the public service of former Eastern Nigeria in 1960 and went on to hold positions such as reporter at the Eastern Nigeria Information Service and Director-General of Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC).

In addition to his contributions to the media sector, Senator Anyim Ude played significant roles in the governance of Ebonyi State. He served as the pioneer commissioner of the Ebonyi Ministry of Commerce and Industry and was involved in the establishment of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Service (ESBS), now known as Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC). Throughout his career, he demonstrated his dedication to public service and made valuable contributions to the development of the state.

The passing of Senator Anyim Ude marks a significant loss for the people of Ebonyi State and the Nigerian political landscape. His legacy as a committed public servant, media professional, and advocate for development in Ebonyi South will be remembered. As the family prepares for his funeral, the entire community mourns the loss of a distinguished statesman.
