Houses razed, many injured in Karim-Lamido clash
Prime 9ja Online reports that a violent clash erupted in Karim_Lamido town, headquarters of Karim_Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba state, leaving several people injured and houses razed. The crisis ensued after the Karimjo ethnic group protested against the appointment of a new Monarch from Wurkum. The youths protested the arrival of the new Monarch from Jalingo, where he and nine other newly appointed Monarchs were presented with the staff of office by Governor Darius Ishaku.

The protest led to several injuries and the destruction of several houses and shops. The new Monarch succeeded his late father, who had ruled the chiefdom for over 40 years. However, the Karimjo ethnic group claimed ownership of Karim_Lamido town and demanded the creation of the Karimjo chiefdom in the same town. The situation forced hundreds of people, including women and children, to flee to neighbouring villages and towns, while security operatives were deployed to control the situation.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Spokesman, SP Usman Abdullahi, revealed that policemen had been deployed to the area. Similarly, the Acting Director, of Army Public Relations, Lt O. Oni, confirmed the deployment of soldiers to the area but gave no further details.

The violent clash in Karim_Lamido town has raised concerns over the issue of ethnic tensions and power tussles in the country. The need for peaceful coexistence among different ethnic groups cannot be overemphasized, as such clashes often result in the loss of lives and properties. The government must take necessary steps to address the root cause of such crises and ensure that justice is done for all parties involved.

In a similar vein, the need to ensure adequate security measures to forestall such violent incidents cannot be overemphasized. Security operatives must be adequately equipped and trained to handle such situations, and the government must provide them with the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively. The safety and security of citizens must remain a top priority for the government at all times.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to restore peace in Karim_Lamido town, and security operatives have been urged to maintain law and order in the area. It is hoped that the situation will be brought under control and normalcy restored soon.
