Mr Daudu expressed his views in response to President Bola Tinubu's decision to eliminate the fuel subsidy, emphasising that Nigerians need to exercise patience as the move aims to benefit the common man and the majority.
"When we talk about fuel subsidy, we are essentially subsidising the rich. How many poor Nigerians actually own vehicles? So, for me, it's a positive step that Tinubu has removed it. Although it will be challenging, nothing worthwhile comes easy," Mr Daudu stated in Akure on Tuesday.
On Monday, President Tinubu announced the discontinuation of fuel subsidy, highlighting that it primarily benefits the wealthy while hindering the country's economic growth. He explained that with dwindling resources, the ever-increasing costs of the subsidy can no longer be justified.
Instead, the funds will be redirected towards infrastructure, investment, education, healthcare, and job creation to significantly improve the lives of millions of Nigerians.
Expanding on his viewpoint, the Ondo lawyer expressed confidence that Nigerians would overcome the challenges associated with fuel subsidy removal. He acknowledged that President Tinubu's decision must have been difficult but emphasised the President's genuine intentions for the country through his policies.
"Initially, we will experience difficulties, but I encourage Nigerians to trust in Tinubu. He has the best interests of Nigeria at heart, and we will overcome those initial challenges to achieve prosperity in our country," Mr Daudu affirmed.
Discussing the need to revitalise the country's economy, Mr Daudu stressed that President Tinubu's administration would require a paradigm shift in governance to attract development. He expressed high expectations of the President, highlighting his passion for Nigeria's progress, extensive capabilities, and global network.
"We anticipate a complete shift in governance under Tinubu's leadership. He is deeply committed to Nigeria's development. With his tremendous capacity and international connections, we believe he will rebuild our economy, creating job opportunities for our youth.
Nigeria will gain significant international recognition due to the goodwill he possesses," Mr Daudu added.
As President Tinubu's decision to remove fuel subsidies continues to spark debates nationwide, it remains to be seen how the policy change will unfold and affect the lives of Nigerians.
