Taking over from Ms Catriona Laing CB, who served as the High Commissioner in Abuja for four years, Dr Montgomery brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He has previously worked in Nigeria and held various senior roles in the Department of International Development (DFID).
Before assuming the role of British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Montgomery served as the UK Executive Director at the World Bank Group Board in Washington DC, USA, from 2018 to 2022. His tenure at the World Bank Group allowed him to gain valuable insights into global development initiatives.
Dr Montgomery's career in public service spans several decades, during which he held prominent positions within DFID. Notable roles include Director for Asia, Caribbean & Overseas Territories Division, Country Director for Pakistan, and Country Director in Nigeria from 2009 to 2013. These experiences have equipped him with a deep understanding of development challenges and the importance of collaboration between nations.
Having previously served in British High Commissions in Zambia, Bangladesh, and India, Dr Montgomery possesses a broad perspective on international relations and cultural diversity.
