In a statement by Odutayo Oluseyi, Head of Press & Public Affairs, the reorganisation of agencies under the Ministry of Aviation aligns with new Acts of the National Assembly that the President recently assented to. The reorganisation aims to enhance efficiency and address stakeholder concerns.
The restructuring includes the creation of new directorates, such as Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Corporate Services, and Aviation Security. The Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Directorate will focus on addressing complaints and overseeing public affairs, protocol, consumer protection, SERVICOM, and anti-corruption departments.
The Aviation Security Directorate will regulate the activities of AVSEC personnel, especially considering their recent arms-bearing status. The Corporate Services Directorates will oversee procurement and planning, research, and other departments.
Kabir Yusuf Mohammed has been appointed as the new Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He previously served as the Regional General Manager, of Central Region Airports, and Chairman of the Aviation Roadmap Implementation Committee.
The Directors-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will continue serving their remaining tenures. The Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Zaria, Captain Alkali Moddibo, has been granted a one-year extension.
To meet the requirements of the Acts and ensure appropriate placements and federal character, the Minister of Aviation has approved the appointment of new directors. These appointments aim to reposition the agencies and enable them to fulfil their statutory duties effectively.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has made several key appointments in departments such as Human Resources and Administration, Commercial and Business Management, and Corporate Services.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also undergone significant changes, with the appointment of a new Director General/CEO and directors for various divisions, including Airworthiness Standards, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Operations, Air Transport Regulations, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Aviation Security, and Corporate Services, among others.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has appointed a new Director General/CEO and directors for Finance and Accounts, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Corporate Services, and Transport Investigation. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has a new Director General/CEO, along with directors for Human Resources and Administration, Weather Forecasting Services, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, and Research and Training.
Finally, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has appointed Engr A. Tayib Odunowo as the Director General/CEO, alongside directors for Operations, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Corporate Services, and General Manager of Public Affairs.
These appointments and the restructuring of the aviation agencies aim to streamline operations, enhance service delivery, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
