ANLCA expressed its endorsement through a statement issued by Barr Val Iwuchukwu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the National President. According to the statement, Hon. Kalu is considered the best choice for the position due to his commitment to the welfare of citizens and his determination to tackle poverty in the country.
The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC), has already selected Hon. Kalu as its candidate for the deputy speaker position in its zoning formula.
ANLCA, a licensed customs group, highlighted Hon. Kalu's experience as a ranking member in the parliament, stating that it would be advantageous for him in the role. The group emphasized his excellent communication skills acquired through years of experience in both the public and private sectors, which would contribute to his effectiveness as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
Reaffirming their support, ANLCA acknowledged Hon. Kalu's current role as the spokesperson of the House of Representatives and his membership in key committees such as Defence, Airforce, Navy, National Security and Intelligence, Agricultural Services, Health Institutions and Health Services, Basic Education, Federal Judiciary, Petroleum Upstream, Climate Change, Federal Character, Pensions, and ad hoc committees like the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB). They recognized his extensive experience and regarded him as the most suitable candidate from the South East for the position.
Describing his legal background, ANLCA noted that Hon. Kalu is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria who has been involved in complex international business structuring, international trade, import and export financing, and financing deals for marine vessel purchases. His experience in building international businesses and his reputation were also acknowledged.
In a similar vein, Eze Chukwuemeka Sylvernus Onuoha, Ezeagunaechemba 1 of Igboelerin Kingdom, voiced his support for Hon. Kalu, declaring him as the ideal candidate for the deputy speaker position. During a press conference held after the monthly meeting of the Igbolerin Council of Chiefs, Eze Agunaechemba expressed his confidence in Hon. Kalu's vision and leadership qualities. He praised Hon. Kalu's previous positions as Chairman of Bende Local Government Area and Special Adviser to the Governor of Abia State, highlighting his contributions to initiatives like the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Eze Agunaechemba described Hon. Kalu as a unifying figure, a hardworking team player, and a bridge builder who will work harmoniously with the speaker to ensure the success of the 10th National Assembly.
With the backing of ANLCA and Eze Chukwuemeka Sylvernus Onuoha, Hon. Benjamin Kalu's bid for the deputy speaker position gains further momentum. As the 10th assembly is inaugurated, the support from these influential entities adds to the growing number of individuals and groups who recognize Hon. Kalu's qualifications and potential to excel in this important role within the House of Representatives.
