Brothers Face Trial for Alleged Rape, Threat in Lagos

In Lagos State, two brothers, Wahab Afeez, 26, and Shuaibu Afeez, 23, have been arraigned by the police on charges of conspiracy, rape, breach of peace, and threat to life. The defendants, whose addresses are unknown, appeared before a chief magistrates' court in Badagry, facing a four-count charge. According to ASP Ikem Uko, the prosecutor, the defendants committed the offences on June 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Oluwo Compound, Imeke, Badagry.

The prosecutor detailed that Wahab Afeez engaged in non-consensual sexual intercourse with a 20-year-old lady and threatened her with a cutlass, warning her against reporting his unlawful act. Shuaibu Afeez, the second defendant, stood at the entrance of the house, watching his brother commit the offence, thereby behaving in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

ASP Uko noted that the defendants' actions contravened sections 411, 137, 260, and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Despite the charges, Wahab and Shuaibu pleaded not guilty.

In response to the case, Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted each defendant bail in the amount of N500,000, requiring two sureties. One of the sureties must be a community leader. The case was adjourned until July 30 for mention.
