During their strategic political discussions titled "Ondo 2024 Governorship Election: Roles of Youthful Professionals," held in Akure on Saturday, the group expressed the need for Adefisoye to prioritise an unwritten rotational agreement among the three senatorial districts of the state.
Mr Kingsley Maggie, the Coordinator of the group, appealed to Adefisoye to set aside his gubernatorial ambition to promote equality, unity, and a sense of belonging among the senatorial districts. Maggie stated, "It has become a general and acceptable consensus that the next governor of Ondo State should come from the southern senatorial part of the State.
We, therefore, urge Tajudeen Adefisoye who is from Idanre Local Government Area in Ondo Central Senatorial District to shelve his gubernatorial ambition in the overall interest of equality, togetherness, and a sense of belonging amongst the three senatorial districts of the Sunshine State."
Maggie acknowledged Adefisoye's popularity and accomplishments as a youth and politician, referring to him as "Small Alhaji." However, he suggested that Adefisoye redirect his focus towards serving Ondo State and Nigeria at a national level in a different capacity.
While recognising Adefisoye's constitutional right to seek any elective position, Maggie urged stakeholders in the state to support the Ondo Senatorial District in producing the next governor, while conceding the ministerial slot to the Ondo Central Senatorial District.
"Adefisoye should push for a ministerial slot or any other federal appointment. It will not be a bad idea if a fellow youth from Ondo State is chosen as a minister or head of an important Nigerian government parastatal. The young man is undoubtedly qualified to represent Ondo State, even as a minister or in any other capacity at the federal level. But as things stand today in our state, both Ondo central and northern senatorial districts should be encouraged to support Ondo south senatorial district to produce the next governor of our dear Sunshine State," emphasised Maggie.
The OSYP's stance reflects their commitment to maintaining the rotational agreement among the senatorial districts of Ondo State and fostering unity among the youth. Their call for Adefisoye to pursue a ministerial role instead of a gubernatorial position aims to ensure equitable representation and opportunities for all senatorial districts within the state.
