Kalthum Foundation Commends Former COAS Buratai for Peace Efforts
Kalthum Foundation for Peace (KFP), a charitable organisation, has commended retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff, for his dedicated efforts in restoring peace and security to Nigeria during his tenure. Ummu Kalthum-Rabiu, the Chairperson and Founder of KFP expressed this sentiment in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.

The foundation has collaborated with the military in the Northeast, employing non-kinetic approaches in counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations. Kalthum-Rabiu emphasised that the recent criticism by Garus Gololo against Buratai was unwarranted, considering his patriotic contributions to combating insecurity in the country.

Kalthum-Rabiu clarified the foundation's position, stating that under Buratai's leadership, troops' welfare and allowances reached their highest levels, with all financial transactions conducted through banks to prevent corruption.

She highlighted that former President Muhammadu Buhari had also played a significant role in procuring necessary arms and equipment for the troops, leading to Nigeria's victories in the fight against insurgency, as recognised by the World Terrorism Index and other international bodies.

The foundation chairperson further revealed that Buratai had not only ensured timely payment of troops' allowances but also introduced a monthly cigarette allowance of N6,000 to boost their morale. As a testament to the soldiers' appreciation and solidarity, during one of his visits to Buniyadi, the troops compelled Buratai to stop, expressing their gratitude. The viral video of the incident captured the soldiers referring to him as "Baba oyo lyo."

Kalthum-Rabiu urged the public to disregard the statements made by individuals with "jobless and destructive minds," emphasising that their vindictive utterances held no moral weight. She asserted that such individuals would not dare to make similar remarks in the Northeast, underscoring the stark contrast between their baseless criticisms and the reality on the ground.

The foundation's statement aimed to set the record straight and defend the reputation of a patriotic officer who had given his best to stabilise the Northeast. It made it clear that it was not an attempt to seek any appointment in President Tinubu's cabinet for Buratai but rather to provide factual information and correct any misconceptions. Kalthum-Rabiu acknowledged that it is within the president's prerogative to decide whom he wishes to work with and determine what is best for the country.
