New Army Chief promises disciplined and professional force
Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, has expressed his commitment to leading an army characterized by discipline and professionalism. During the handover ceremony at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Lagbaja addressed a gathering of senior military officers and department heads, highlighting the prudent management of resources and military hardware procurement under his predecessor.

Lagbaja acknowledged the achievements of his predecessor and vowed to build upon the existing legacy, emphasizing the importance of retaining the knowledge and experiences of retiring personnel to benefit the Nigerian Army in the future. He assured the attendees, stating, "I promise to run an army that will be driven by discipline and professionalism."

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, also addressed the event, reflecting on the state of the Boko Haram insurgency when he assumed office in 2021. He asserted that significant progress has been made under his leadership, improving the situation compared to when he first took charge. Lieutenant General Yahaya, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari following the tragic demise of Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers in an air crash, previously served as the theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the counter-insurgency operation in the Northeast.

Yahaya urged the army to sustain the progress achieved in combating various security threats, including terrorists, bandits, and crude oil thieves. The collective efforts of the military are crucial in maintaining the current momentum and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.

With the new Chief of Army Staff assuming his role, the Nigerian Army looks forward to continued advancements in professionalism, discipline, and the effective management of resources. The commitment of both Lagbaja and Yahaya highlights the determination to address security challenges and protect the country from threats that undermine peace and stability.
