Nigerian Singer Tems Wins 'Best Collaboration' at 23rd BET Awards
Nigerian singer Tems, known as Temilade Openiyi, had a standout moment at the 23rd BET Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Despite facing disappointment in two out of her three nominations, Tems emerged victorious in the "Best Collaboration" category for her contribution to Future's hit song 'Wait For U,' which also features Canadian rapper Drake.

This recent accolade adds to the success of 'Wait For U,' as it had previously secured the 'Best Melodic Rap Performance' award at the 2023 Grammys. The BET Award marks the song's second major recognition, having previously debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart last year.

While Tems celebrated her triumph, she faced setbacks in other categories. In the highly competitive "Best Female R&B/Pop Artist" category, she lost to SZA, a talented American singer. Additionally, the "Viewer's Choice" award went to the iconic Beyoncé, leaving Tems without the trophy.

Similarly, Burna Boy, another celebrated Nigerian artist, experienced some disappointments at the 2023 BET Awards. He was unable to secure the "Best Male R&B/Pop Artist" award, which was claimed by Chris Brown and Usher. Additionally, the "Best Video Director" category was won by the talented Teyana Taylor.

However, amidst the losses, Burna Boy managed to clinch the highly coveted "Best International Act" award for an impressive fourth time. This achievement further solidifies his status as a global music sensation.

At this year's BET Awards, two notable artists, Beyoncé and SZA, stood out with three wins each, tying for the most victories. Their remarkable talent and impact on the music industry were recognized and celebrated throughout the event.

The 23rd BET Awards proved to be a significant milestone for Tems, as her collaboration with Future and Drake earned her well-deserved recognition. The achievements of both Tems and Burna Boy serve as a testament to the incredible talent emanating from Nigeria and the impact it is making on the international music scene.
