Ondo Governor on Medical Leave, Deputy to Act
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has taken a medical leave and handed over the affairs of the state to his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The Ondo State House of Assembly confirmed this development, stating that the governor requested a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad. The leave, which was set to start from June 7 to July 6, will be extended due to public holidays. The governor expressed in his letter that Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa would act as the acting governor during his absence.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, acknowledged the receipt of the letter and wished Governor Akeredolu a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation. He described the governor as a proponent of peace and the rule of law. This medical leave comes after Governor Akeredolu has been battling ill health for several months, leading to an extended absence from work.

Recently, a false rumour regarding the governor's death circulated, which was promptly debunked by his wife, Betty. The governor's health has been a matter of concern, and his decision to take a medical leave is aimed at prioritising his well-being and receiving the necessary treatment.

During Governor Akeredolu's absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will assume the role of acting governor. The deputy governor, along with the state government officials, will ensure the continuity of governance and the effective functioning of the state's affairs. It is expected that Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa will diligently carry out his responsibilities in the best interest of the state and its residents.

The people of Ondo state and the entire political community send their well-wishes to Governor Akeredolu, hoping for his swift recovery and return to active duty. The governor's commitment to the welfare and development of the state has earned him respect and support from various quarters, and his absence will be felt during this period. However, with capable leadership in place, the state can continue its progress and address the needs of its citizens.

As Governor Akeredolu focuses on his health, it is a reminder of the importance of self-care and seeking appropriate medical attention when needed. The well-being of public officials is crucial for them to effectively carry out their duties and serve the people. The governor's decision to prioritise his health sets a positive example for others facing similar circumstances.

Governor Akeredolu's medical leave serves as a reminder that public servants, like everyone else, can face health challenges and require time for recovery. The support and understanding of the people during this period will undoubtedly be appreciated by the governor and his family.
