The APM had requested a date to commence the hearing of its petition against the results of the February 25 presidential election. The proceedings had been delayed due to the party's need to obtain a Supreme Court judgment.
The sought-after ruling from the apex court pertained to the dismissal of the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) suit, which aimed to nullify President Tinubu's election on the grounds of alleged double nomination concerning his running mate, now Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
The APM considered the Supreme Court's ruling significant to its case, as it addressed essential points of dispute. The party's lead counsel, Yakubu Maikyau, personally requested an adjournment to assess the impact of the Supreme Court's judgment on their petition. The court granted the request, but obtaining the certified true copy of the judgment has proven challenging.
Senior counsel for the All Progressives Congress (APC), L.O. Fagbemi, concurred that efforts to obtain the judgment in question have been unsuccessful. Consequently, they agreed to proceed with setting a date for the hearing of the case.
Presiding judge Haruna Tsammani considered the submissions from both sides and granted the adjournment, rescheduling the hearing to commence on Monday, June 19.
