Plateau State Government Implements 24-Hour Curfew in Mangu LGA
Plateau State Government has taken decisive action by imposing a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) in response to the escalating violence and attacks on communities. The move comes after Governor Caleb Mutfwang revealed the shocking death toll of approximately 150 people within a span of three weeks in Mangu.

A statement from Markus Artu, the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, was released to Channels Television on Monday, outlining the strict measures implemented during the curfew. The statement emphasised that all vehicular movement is prohibited, and movement on motorcycles is banned until further notice. Only authorised security personnel and essential workers will be allowed to operate within the local government.

Governor Mutfwang, in his message to the citizens, called for calmness, tolerance, and forgiveness in the face of recent tragic incidents that have claimed numerous lives in Mangu. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering a new and united Plateau, where the diverse opinions of law-abiding citizens are respected, ensuring the safety and progress of the state.

Furthermore, Governor Mutfwang's Director of Press and Public Affairs, Bere Gyang, issued a statement on Monday urging religious, traditional, and community leaders to initiate immediate confidence-building measures among affected citizens. This initiative aims to strengthen inter-communal relations and promote harmony in the face of adversity.

Governor Mutfwang warned that the government will not tolerate the activities of troublemakers and crisis merchants who selfishly fuel unrest and sow discord among the peace-loving citizens. He stressed the need for security personnel to carry out their duties with the utmost professionalism, emphasising that individuals or groups identified as culprits or sponsors of the security challenges should not be treated lightly.

The imposition of the curfew and the call for unity and peace reflect the state government's determination to restore stability and ensure the well-being of its citizens. The authorities are taking firm action to address the current security situation in Mangu and prevent further loss of lives. The government's focus on rebuilding trust and fostering inter-communal harmony is essential for creating a safer and more prosperous Plateau.
