According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspects were operating in an unregistered black Toyota Corolla car when the police team arrived at the scene. The armed hoodlums opened fire on the advancing officers, prompting a swift response. A fierce gunfight ensued, leading to the fatal shooting of three suspects, while others managed to escape, possibly with gunshot wounds.
During the operation, the police were able to recover significant evidence from the scene. This included a cut-to-size locally fabricated gun, two live cartridges, and eight different vehicle keys. The police believe that these items are linked to the criminal activities of the suspects.
The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Wale Abass, confirmed the incident in a statement signed by DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer. DSP Edafe provided details of the encounter, stating, "The injured suspects gave up the ghost while they were being taken to the hospital."
The police have launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the criminal gang who managed to flee the scene. Efforts are underway to track them down and bring them to justice.
The successful operation demonstrates the commitment of the Delta State Police Command to ensuring the safety and security of residents in the area. The police will continue their efforts to combat crime and maintain law and order in the state.
