Reinstated Kano Anti-Corruption Chief Vows to Reopen Ganduje Bribery Probe
Muhuyi Rimingado, the reinstated chair of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC), has announced that the investigation into the bribery allegation against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje will be reopened.

Mr Rimingado, who was suspended from office by Mr Ganduje, vowed to continue probing the viral video footage that allegedly shows the ex-governor collecting bribes from a contractor. In an interview with DCL Hausa on Wednesday, shortly after his reinstatement by Governor Abba Yusuf following a court order nullifying his suspension, Mr Rimingado affirmed his commitment to pursuing the case.

The scandalous scenes captured in the 2018 videos published by Daily Nigerian exposed Mr Ganduje allegedly receiving kickbacks from contractors, sparking widespread public criticism and demands for further investigations. As a result, the former governor earned the moniker 'Gandollar,' coined from the amalgamation of his last name and the word "dollar." Despite the allegations, Mr Ganduje denied any wrongdoing and enjoyed constitutional immunity from criminal prosecution.

However, Mr Rimingado expressed his determination to resume the investigation into the bribery allegations against the former governor. "As I said before my suspension, we are investigating the video, and when my reinstatement was announced, I also declared that we will continue from where we stopped," stated the head of the Kano anti-commission. He assured the public that cases believed to have been swept under the carpet would be revisited, expressing his unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption.

Mr Rimingado emphasized that no obstacles would hinder their anti-corruption efforts. "We'll build on the success recorded before my suspension because there are a lot of expectations on us, and we can't afford to disappoint," he declared. The Kano anti-corruption agency head acknowledged that in the past, the approach had been more focused on reconciliation rather than prosecution. However, he asserted that he had learned from his suspension and intended to implement changes. "So, I won't relent until we get rid of corruption in the system," he added firmly.

The decision to reopen the investigation into the bribery allegation against former Governor Ganduje signifies a renewed commitment to combating corruption in Kano State. As Mr. Rimingado takes charge once again, expectations are high, and the public eagerly awaits the outcome of this high-profile case. The reinstated chair of the Kano State PCACC has demonstrated his determination to pursue justice and uphold transparency, promising a relentless fight against corruption.
